Technical Commissioning

Facility Dynamics Engineering has been providing commissioning services directly to Owners before the term ‘commissioning’ was in common use and long before most of today’s current providers were active in the field. In the current marketplace, many design engineering-based firms have sought commissioning work as an addition to their design practice. Recent attempts at standardizing and regulating commissioning practices have resulted in a prescriptive approach that is largely based on managing checklists and witnessing contractor QA/QC activities. While these tools may be useful when used as a part of the commissioning process, FDE firmly believes the most thorough approach, and ultimately the most cost-effective for the Owner, is achieved using a field-based ‘Hands-On’ functional testing process carried out by an experienced team that is comfortable in the field and has a solid building controls-specific background.

Our technical commissioning teams provide an optimal blend of engineering/technician/contracting experience for testing, troubleshooting, and mechanical/electrical problem solving. Some issues identified during commissioning are obvious and easily resolved. However, when problems become more complex due to a combination of design, construction, and controls issues, FDE’s knowledgeable and experienced staff can provide solutions to even the most challenging commissioning problems. FDE engineers and technicians routinely present effective solutions to problems involving BAS and equipment controls, control logic, and interfaces between equipment that needs to function ‘across Contractors’ but often are left incomplete. Our philosophy of hiring only the most technically and field-proven individuals combined with our investment in our staff results in a 'deep bench' that ultimately benefits the Owner. FDE's technical teams not only have expertise in managing the process, but more importantly, they are experienced at being active participants in developing optimally functioning facilities.
